Maze Block is one of the clearest examples of 01EDC using childhood object memory without letting nostalgia do all the work. The reference is obvious: game console buttons, a blocky handheld shape, and a bead maze. The more important part is how many interactions are packed into the object.

This is not a single-action slider with decorative extras. The local archive describes three modes of play, each with a different tactile job. That makes the object feel closer to a small control surface than a simple fidget body.

Three kinds of play

The first mode is the mechanical double-track side push. The archive describes a Teflon track piece using a double-track structure, paired with metal components for low-friction movement. It gives 13 dense segments, so the hand gets a counted rhythm instead of one smooth anonymous slide.

The second mode is the button module. It borrows the language of classic game consoles, with buttons that can be pressed independently. The third mode is the marble maze patch, using a 1.5 mm ceramic bead to recreate the tiny bead-path game many people recognize immediately.

None of those actions is complicated alone. Together, they give the object range.

The snake edition

WANEDC’s current variants are all Snake editions: Snake-SS+Brass, Snake-SS+Cupronickel, and Snake-SS+Copper. The archive describes a snake relief patch with raised texture rather than a flat graphic, turning the surface into another hand-readable detail.

That matters for this object because the Maze platform already asks the hand to explore. Side push, buttons, bead path, relief texture, and material contrast all point in the same direction: the object rewards touch from more than one angle.

Collector read

Maze Block works best when understood as a compact interaction board. The side-push track gives it the dense slider loop. The buttons add short independent presses. The bead maze slows the object down into a small path-following task. None of those actions is complicated alone. Together, they give the object range.

That range is very 01EDC. The brand often builds objects that look playful first, then reveal their structure through use. Maze Block does that by hiding a small catalogue of hand actions inside a block that initially reads like a game reference.
