Thousand-Scale Gold Armour
YEDC’s show piece is the Paris-stud special-material cloud-turner in copper damascus — 千鳞金甲, “Thousand-Scale Gold Armour.” The maker’s own text: molten steel for bone, folded copper for veins, a thousand hammerings to reach the form — geometric facets cutting open the layered metal so silver, copper and gold interleave at the fingertips, like scale armour lit by a battlefield sunset, or stars breaking a night sky.
Sales are rationed: seventy-five pieces per day, one hundred and fifty across the two days.
